In your search to find work for stay at home moms, you have no doubt seen and read all the hype. Big promises of making huge dollars doing various jobs online, including everything from paid surveys to data entry. Most of these center around a skill and have nothing to do with untapping the true potential of the internet.

Yes, you need a computer, but in actuality, if you could find a local company to pay you to work from home, who needs the internet?

What these job opportunities DO offer is accessibility. That said, how much can you really make with some of these work at home opportunities?

When you are working at a job, there is no guarantee it will be there forever. As well, you only have the potential to make a few meager dollars. Your pay is set in stone. You can’t even begin to dream about what could happen if you put your efforts into something larger than just doing tasks for someone on your computer.

For a moment, I ask you to dream. What if you could build a successful business through a high traffic website that you can call your own? One of the hottest new online businesses is in social media, as featured on wahm.com.

When I refer to a website of your own, I am not talking about a turnkey system where everyone has the same website and leaves you having to start “network marketing” to make any money.

I am talking about building a business around a website that is totally unique to your dreams, your passion, your hobbies or your area of expertise. You may be a teacher who is on maternity leave or has left the profession altogether. You may be a craft queen, a gardening green thumb, an expert mom who has raised a difficult child.

Imagine if you could turn what you already know into a website that makes money? You can do it by offering a service or by making money from advertising and selling related products.

Recently my wife and went to see the movie Julia and Julia. This is exactly what I’m talking about. Of course, young Julie wasn’t one of the many work at home moms we hear about today online, but she did follow her passion. One thing the movie didn’t talk about is the potential to earn money off her blog. The point is, it started with her writing about something she loved.

I’ve been working full time at home since 2004. I started my service based business back in 1997 for earn extra money for my wife, 2 daughters and my son. which eventually turned into a full time work commitment working at home. Other than what I knew in my profession, I didn’t have any special skills in regards to building an online home business. All I did was work hard at it.

The good news is, I didn’t do it in a day, a week, or even a month. For you as a work at home mom, it’s as simple as putting an hour in during nap time, or later in the evening after the kids have done to bed. Or getting dad to take the kids off to the park for a couple of hours on Saturday. Your efforts accumulate.

Trust me on this. If you follow your passion, your adrenaline will start pumping. It will not feel like work most of the time. With the right step by step process, it won’t take as long either.

A work at home JOB just more work you have to do. Building a website on the other hand, is all about putting your energies into something bigger than yourself with all the potential of the internet on your doorstep.

The process of building an effective website is hard work. As a mom seeking to work at home, you already know what hard work it. But that’s not the major challenge. The major challenge is building it in a way that gets traffic.

There is a system to doing it right. Even those who know all there is to know, need to follow a plan. To miss any step along the way is to weaken the full potential. Most websites miss more than a few links in the chain.

If you are STILL reading this article (my wife says my articles are too long) then I am pretty sure you are tired of all the hype. Hype sells to a large percentage of people. I encourage you to Dare to Dream beyond just a few extra dollars doing a mindless job. Build something big. If you follow your passion, it won’t feel as hard. Why did we parents even raise kids in the first place. It’s work. If all we saw was the work, we’d quit. Unfortunately, some people do quit. Even on their families.

It’s not hype. It’s a long term business!
